Amity Institute of Education (AIE) organizes a lecture on “Designing Strategies for reinforcing values in education” on International Women’s Day

New Delhi: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Amity Institute of Education, Amity University organized a National Seminar on “Designing Strategies for reinforcing Values in education” at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida
 
The rising crimes in the society especially those against the women are attributed to the erosion of value system amongst the people of the country. There is an age old contention whether the values are inculcated in schools by teachers or at home by parents. Policy makers and educationists have long been advocating “Education for values”. Amity Institute of Education organized the National Seminar to elaborate on how teachers can help to deeply ingrain values in the youth of the country.
 
Prof. Daya Pant- Head, Department of Education Psychology and Foundation of Education NCERT, Dr. Ramesh Bijlani- Educationist, Writer and Inspirational Speaker, Dr. R P Pathak- Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Prof. B B Dhar- Senior Vice President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (an umbrella body of Amity Institutions, Prof. A K Uppal- Advisor, Amity Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences and Dr. Alka Mudgul- Head, Amity Institute of Education, Amity University inaugurated the Seminar.
 
Sharing her views during the occasion, Prof. Daya Pant- Head, Department of Education Psychology and Foundation of Education, NCERT opined that values don’t arise within an individual but values are nurtured in individuals by teachers and parents.

At the same time, values are caught and not taught but then youth can get values only if they are there around him, imbued in the environment around. She stressed that value nurturance starts at the individual level, since one cannot change the people around oneself but he can surely change himself and the way he deals with the people around.

Talking about how teachers can contribute in inculcating values in the students, Prof. Daya Pant suggested that teachers should link the pedagogy and the subjects to real life, which would fire the curiosity in the students. The focus has to be shift from “Teaching” to “Learning” which emphasizes on empathetic, open and two way communications.
 
Delivering an inspirational speech, Dr. Ramesh Bijlani- Educationist, Writer and Inspirational Speaker said that human beings have an inbuilt system of Award and Punishment. There is an internal monitor called “inner soul”, in every human being, which guides him as to what is wrong and what is right.

He remarked that if the voice of soul is at peace, it will give lasting joy and peace of mind to a person whereas if it is in conflict, the person would feel guilty and unhappy. In children, that monitor is wide open and if they are provided right environment and right education that monitor will remain wide open. In Higher education, the level of output depends upon type of students, teachers and curriculum but at Primary level, the output majorly rests on teachers because at that level all students have the same capabilities and abilities.

Dr. Bijlani stressed that values have to be brought into the education system by re-designing B.Ed courses and drawing good talent into the teaching profession. He further suggested that Primary teachers should be paid as much as higher education teachers since handling small children and nurturing values in them is a major responsibility.

Refuting the way values are construed generally, Dr. Bijlani remarked that set of do’s and don’ts outlined by the society are just mental constructs and not values since values change with the passage of time. No code of conduct can take care of all possibilities and moreover, nobody likes sermonizing. Values are personal beliefs and are implicit. Values are for common good and they define an individual’s moral and ethical conduct.
 
The Seminar was attended by hundreds of teachers from eminent schools across Delhi/ NCR.
