TN students to participate in car race in China in August |

Coimbatore:Three Tamil Nadu students will participate in the 'International Freescale Intelligence Car Race' to be held in China in August, by virtue of their winning the Freescale Cup-2013 held in the country recently.
The students are Karthik Kalaimani, Navin Kumar Chandrasekar and Jagdish Lakshmanaperumal Krishna Chand of the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology at Sathyamangalam in Erode District.
S V Balasubramaniam, Chairman, BAIT, told reporters here today that the finals of the 3rd Edition of Freescale Cup on February 18, drew participation from 247 teams across 70 colleges and BAIT saw 11 teams in the finals, the maximum from one college in the competition.
The first prize was bagged by Hotwheels, comprising the three students and fourth spot, consolation prize, going to three girl students of BAIT, he said.
In the competition, the students were required to develop a prototype racing car that follows a line around a track and the embedded car kit consists of 32 bit high performance Freescale processor 'Power PC' sensor camera, two driving motors with amplifiers and interfacing cards, Muthukumar, Director, Freescale Semiconductor, the organisers, said.
Final race track was 34 meter circumferance with high level of six loops, few zigzag paths, speed brekers and bumps and the winning car is the one that completes the track in the least amount of time, he said.
The winners had finished the laps in a record time of 20.4 seconds, (earlier time was 25 seconds), he said, adding, the girl students had finished in 23 seconds.
"We are eagerly waiting to go to China, dominating the race along with Korea, to participate in the International finals, Karthik said.
